Who You Are Is Enough, No Matter What Anyone Else Says
Whether we like to admit it or not, most of us have this toxic belief that we are not enough – not good enough, worthy enough, smart enough, rich enough, beautiful enough, lovable enough, popular enough, etc. And because of that, we spend our entire lives trying to prove our worth to everyone around us, failing to realize that life is not about proving our worth, but rather, about realizing our worth.
I have said it many times and I will continue to say it for as long as I live – we are made of love and made TO love. Love is who we are. But this love that I am talking about is not the kind of love that the world gives. No! This love is a pure love. A love that nourishes the Soul by infusing Light and Truth into every cell of your body and every area of your life. It’s the kind of love that removes the veil from your eyes so that you can see things clearly and recognize the truth of who you are; the truth of who everyone else is.
The world we live in is full of darkness, and not the kind of darkness that nourishes the Soul, but rather the kind that damages, impoverishes and harms the essence of who we are. The kind of darkness that makes us believe we are unworthy beings who need to work very hard on fixing and correcting our many flaws and imperfections. And because we do our best to blend in and be like everyone else, we fail to recognize how much harm we’re doing to ourselves.
“Soul, if you want to learn secrets, your heart must forget about shame and dignity. You are God’s lover, yet you worry what people are saying.” ~ Rumi
We are constantly influenced by the thoughts, ideas, and beliefs of the many people we come in contact with, and unfortunately, many of these thoughts, ideas, and beliefs are toxic. For they feed our fears and limitations, and they continue to make us feel like we’re never enough.
Life gave each of us a mind that is separate from that of everyone else, to think our thoughts and to develop our own personal ideas and beliefs. But the sad thing is that a lot of people never learned how to think their own thoughts and how to develop their own beliefs. Because of that, they allowed other people to do their thinking for them. And even though it might seem a lot easier to live life this way, we owe it to ourselves to think our OWN thoughts and to live our lives according to our OWN beliefs.
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.” ~ Bob Marley
Isn’t it interesting how much we value the opinions of others and how hard we work on trying to prove our value and our worth to everyone around us? From a very young age we are taught to look for validation, love, and approval from the people around us, and even though in those first years of our lives we really need the love and approval of our parents and caretakers, to grow and develop in harmonious and healthy ways, as we grow older this kind of behavior should no longer be encouraged and pursued.
“What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others.” ~ Confucius
Who you are is enough, and not because of how you look, how well you perform at your job or because of how many people love and approve of you. Your true value, the essence of who you are, is not determined by anything external, nor is it influenced by what you, or anyone else, thinks of you. No! Your value and self-worth are determined by life itself.
Who you are is worthy because that’s how life created you. That’s how you came into this physical world – worthy, valuable and good enough! So you might as well let go of this unhealthy need to spend your days, weeks, months, years and even your entire life trying to prove your worth to people who might not even care about you and just embrace the truth of who you are.
Place your hands over your heart, take a few cleansing breaths, and repeat these words to yourself:
“In this moment I am enough.
In this moment, I am perfect just the way I am.” Because the truth of the matter is, Who You Are Is Enough, No Matter What Anyone Else Says!
